About Me

My photo
James McKew
James McKew was born in Corona, California, and moved with his Grandparents when he was 9 years old to Topaz Lake, Nevada. During his grade-school years, the family spent the summers traveling throughout the western United States and Canada. During the school year, there were many weekend camping trips to the Sierra Nevada Mountains, where he and his brother were encouraged to roam the hills until dark. It was during these times that his deep love and appreciation for the land began to stimulated his interest in art and was a contributing factor in what was to become his life-long commitment to painting. He spends many days each year painting outdoors. This connection to actual subjects enables him to paint landscapes from direct observation during all seasons, which reinforces both his plein-air and studio work. He has participated in many fine invitational art shows throughout the country including the prestigious Death Valley Art Show and Sale. In addition, his work can be found in many private collections, including the permanent collection of the Grand Teton Lodge. McKew lives in and maintains his studio in Moab, an eclectic town in Utah.
